Blacklist unwanted terms and control suggestions in search
The Blacklist management tool empowers you to control which search terms appear as search suggestions, related tags, or next queries in your search experience. Blackisting terms is useful for filtering out competitor brand names, irrelevant terms, or profanity that may surface due to collective shopper intent. Blacklisting a term does not prevent shoppers from searching for it. The term won’t appear as a suggestion, related tag, or next query; otherwise, results will still be shown if available in your catalog.

Getting started with the Blacklist management tool
When you access the Blacklist management tool in the Playboard, you view the list of blacklisted terms that have been created for your commerce store. The list displays all turned-on and off configurations, details on when they were last modified, and options to search and filter the list. If no blacklist configurations have been created yet, the list contains no rows.
You can create, edit, delete, or even temporarily turn a configuration off without having to delete it.
List view of the Blacklist management tool - (A) Filters and search, (B) Action tools, (C) Blacklist configuration list, (D) Row selector, (E) Page navigation options.
The blacklist configurations list (C) displays the details of the configured blacklisted terms:
- Language: the language set up for your implementation.
- Terms: the terms you want to include in the blacklist configuration.
- Updated on: the date and time when the last changes were made to the configuration.
- Status: the status of the configuration. It shows whether the blacklist configuration is on or off.
You can sort the results by Language, Updated on, or Status. Use the filters and search box (A) in the configuration list view to find the blacklist configuration you need. When using the search box, you can search for strict matching results to get results that match exactly the query you entered. You can choose to have non-strict matching results, including either the configurations whose name matches exactly or partially your query terms.
You can use the row selector (D) to select the number of configurations to be displayed in the list. If there is more than one page of blacklist configurations, you can navigate to other pages in the list using the page navigation options (E).
To add a new configuration from the list screen, select the + NEW button. To edit an existing configuration, click its row to open the edition screen. To edit or clone one configuration, or delete, turn on or off several configurations, select the checkbox next to the corresponding configurations and use the action tools (B) or the options displayed on the three-dot icon on the left.
Creating a blacklist configuration
You create a new blacklist configuration from the configuration list screen. Click the + NEW button.
