Analyze query data with Queries

Queries is the Empathy Platform Playboard data analytics tool to analyze the search evolution of the queries performed in your commerce store. You can analyze significant KPIs directly related to the query, such as clicks, success clicks, CTR, findability, add-to-cart, checkout, and no results. You can also narrow the data analytics displayed by selecting one of the queries related to the original one.

You access Queries through the Insights landing page in the Playboard.

Try Queries to...

  • Analyze the main KPIs affecting the performance of the queries searched in your commerce store.
  • Explore and compare how queries are distributed across different devices, languages, stores, etc., or specific time periods.
  • Visualize the evolution of a query over time and its insightful metrics (clicks, success clicks, checkouts, etc.).
  • Check the products with more interactions (clicks, add-to-carts, etc.) for a query.
  • Identify queries offering no results to avoid shoppers’ frustration.

Getting started with Queries

The Queries data analytics tool explores the search evolution of the queries performed in your commerce store over a specific period with different data visualization charts. When accessing the tool, the overall information for all the queries performed is displayed. It has a view similar to that offered in the Overall analytics tool. Enter a query in the search bar to narrow the data visualization, and click one of the related queries displayed to dive deeper.

Queries data analytics view for a specific query

When you land in the Querys data analytics visualization, a simplified view of the overall data about the queries performed in your commerce store is displayed. This simplified view includes the following:

When a specific query is selected from the search box, the following two sections appear:

Consider that when a specific query is selected, the data visualization charts display data for that specific query.

The header (A) includes the date selector, the Compare with field, and the data filters, if applicable.

With the date selector, you can narrow the period when the queries were performed on your commerce store. There are four options:

  • Today: queries performed over the current day.
  • Last 7 days: queries performed over the last 7 days (default).
  • Last 30 days: queries performed over the last 30 days.
  • Custom date: queries performed over a selected date range.

With the Compare with field, you can select to not compare the data analytics at all by selecting None, compare them with the previous period similar to the one chosen by selecting Previous period, or compare them with the same period of the past year by selecting Year over year.

If your instance includes filters (such as store, language, or device), you can set a specific scenario to display the query data. For example, you can apply filters to visualize the queries made in the commerce store across different locations and languages to detect disparities in searches per region.

The search box (B) allows you to perform a query to visualize the total number of times the query and its related queries, if any, were performed. Select a query from the list to narrow down the data analytics displayed in the charts. Instead of choosing a query from this list, you can select one directly from the list displayed in the Queries Distribution chart.

Search Success Metrics

The Search Success Metrics chart (C) provides insights into search performance by displaying key metrics about queries, sessions, and queries per session. The following KPIs are included:

  • No Clicks: percentage of times the query returned results but did not lead to any clicks based on the number of times the query was performed.
  • CTR: percentage of times the query led to clicks on products based on the number of times the query was performed.
  • Findability: percentage of times the query led to clicks on products on the first page of the SERP based on the number of times the query was performed.
  • Checkout: percentage of times the query resulted in one or several products being purchased based on the number of times the query was performed.
  • No Results: percentage of times the query returned no results based on the number of times the query was performed.
  • Add2cart: percentage of times the query led to a product being added to the cart based on the number of times the query was performed.

This chart is shown regardless of whether a search has been performed in the search box above. If no query is selected, the data analytics are based on all queries in your commerce store. When a query is selected, the chart analytics are updated based on that specific query. Note that the chart title changes to Search Success Metrics for "<query>" when a query is selected.

Queries Distribution

The Queries Distribution (E) chart lists all the queries performed in your commerce store for the selected period. Use the tabs on top of the table to switch between scenarios. You can list data for all queries, queries with results, or queries without results. The following KPIs are included:

  • Query: search query performed in your commerce store.
  • Quantity: number of times the query has been searched during the date range.
  • No results: percentage of times the query didn't return results based on the number of times the query was performed. This column is displayed only when the All queries tab is selected.
  • CTR: percentage of times the query led to clicks on products based on the number of times the query was performed.
  • Findability: percentage of times the query led to clicks on products on the first page of the SERP based on the number of times the query was performed.
  • Add2carts: percentage of times the query led to a product being added to the cart based on the number of times the query was performed.
  • Checkouts: percentage of times the query resulted in one or several products being purchased based on the number of times the query was performed.
  • Volume: percentage of times the query was performed over the total number of search queries performed.

note

When Queries without results tab is selected, the columns displayed are Query, Quantity, and Volume.

You can use the action tools for visualization and navigation options. Select the number of queries to be displayed with the row selector. Navigate to the following page with the page navigation options. Download the data displayed with the Download icon.

When you select a query or related query from the search box section above, the Queries Distribution changes location and data visualization. The chart now displays information specific to the selected query, showing metrics such as the number of queries, clicks, success clicks, checkouts, no results, and add-to-carts across the different segments configured for your instance, such as language, device type, or store. Note that the chart title changes to Queries Distribution for "<query>" when a query is selected.

Each segment has its own tab, so you can explore and analyze how the search query performed within each segment separately. Select one of the metrics to see how the search query performed for the segment chosen. On the right, a spider graph represents the information related to the segment and metric selected.

Evolution Over Time

The Evolution Over Time (D) chart displays only when you select a query or related query from the search box section above. This X/Y lineal chart shows the volume or percentage of the following KPIs related to the analyzed query:

  • Queries: number of times the query has been performed. It's only displayed when the Show percentage toggle is not selected.
  • Clicks: number of clicks made on the products listed on the SERP.
  • Success clicks: number of clicks made on the products listed on the first results page.
  • Checkouts: number of products listed on the SERP that have finally been purchased.
  • No Results: number of times the query has returned no results.
  • Add2carts: number of products listed on the SERP that have been added to the cart.

Select the Show percentage toggle to change the data display from volume to percentage. Click the metric names in the legend to remove or add them to the chart.

The Related Products for "<query>" (F) table shows the products related to the analyzed query, ranked in descending order. For each product, the following KPIs are provided:

  • Clicks: number of times a product has been clicked.
  • Add2carts: number of times a product has been added to the cart.
  • Checkouts: number of times a product has been bought.

Hover over the volume bars to see the percentage of the product's volume in relation to the total number of queries.

You can use the action tools for visualization and navigation options. Select the number of products to display with the row selector and navigate to the following page with the page navigation options.
