Visualize query performance with Semantics

Semantics is the Empathy Platform Playboard data visualization tool used to show how queries with no or low results are enhanced with the Semantics service, reducing shoppers' frustration and increasing the number of interactions with your commerce store, such as clicks, add-to-carts, and checkouts. The Semantics service works as a fallback mechanism for queries with zero or low results since it generates relevant product suggestions based on semantic affinities with the original query. On a common basis, semantic suggestions are displayed as context and meaning-related queries with their corresponding product carousels.

You access the Semantics dataviz through the Insights landing page in the Playboard.

Try Semantics to…

  • Analyze the overall performance of the Semantics service enhancements over the queries that previously returned no results or low results.
  • Check how the Semantics service enhancements have dropped the percentage of no results and increased the number of shoppers' interactions with the Semantics service results, such as clicks, add-to-carts, and checkouts.
  • Dive deep into the results performance enhanced with the Semantics service for each case: no results or low results.
  • See in detail how the Semantics service has performed for each query: suggested queries given by the Semantics service, increase of interactions (clicks, add-to-carts, and checkouts), and total number of times the original query has been searched.

Getting started with Semantics

The Semantics data visualization shows the queries' performance after Semantics service is used over queries returning zero or low results. It displays information on the gain in shoppers' interactions with semantic improvements and provides a detailed analysis per query of the Semantics service performance in no-result or low-result situations.

Semantics data visualization - (A) Header, (B) Scope selector tabs, (C) Semantics performance, (D) Semantics bars chart, (E) Overtime chart, and (F) Query performance table.

The data visualization has two main sections and three main sub-sections:

The header (A) includes the date selector and the filters for the data (if applicable). The date selector is used to determine the date range for which the queries are presented. There are four different options:

  • Today: queries performed over the current day.
  • Last 7 days: queries performed over the last 7 days (default).
  • Last 30 days: queries performed over the last 30 days.
  • Custom date: queries performed over a selected date range.

Scope selector tabs

note

The total number of queries for the date range selected is always visible on top of the scope selector tabs for you to compare it with the rest of the data provided.

Use the Scope selector tabs (B) to select the information to display in the Semantics performance, the bars chart, the overtime chart, or the query performance table:

  • Semantics overall: shows data on the Semantics' global performance, including details about enhanced queries that previously returned no or low results.
  • Semantics no-results: shows data on Semantics' performance related to enhanced queries that previously returned no results.
  • Semantics low-results: shows data on Semantics' performance related to enhanced queries that previously returned low results.

Semantics performance

Depending on the tab chosen in the scope selector above, the Semantics performance (C) quickly shows the performance of the Semantics service with the following information:

  • Semantics queries: total number of queries with no or low results, or both as overall, enhanced by the Semantics service.
  • Clicks gained: total number of clicks gained after Semantics is leveraged over queries with no or low results, or both as overall.
  • A2C gained: total number of add-to-carts gained after Semantics is leveraged over queries with no or low results, or both as overall.
  • No results drop: total number of queries that previously didn't return results but now do after Semantics is leveraged.

Semantics bars chart

Depending on the tab chosen in the scope selector above, the Semantics bars chart (D) displays the number of no-results drops and interactions gained accordingly. On top of each graph bar, a percentage indicates the no results drop and the interactions gained.

With the no-results drop bar, you can compare the number of queries with no results before and after the Semantics service is leveraged. The interactions gained bar shows how the number of clicks, add-to-carts, and checkouts increased after applying the Semantics service to zero and low results queries, to zero results queries only, or to low results queries only.

Semantics overtime chart

Depending on the tab chosen in the scope selector above, the X/Y lineal Semantics overtime chart (E) displays the following information:

  • No Results: number of queries that still return no results after Semantics is applied.
  • Semantics queries: number of queries with no or low results enhanced by the Semantics service.
  • Clicks: number of clicks gained after Semantics is applied.
  • Add2carts: number of add-to-carts gained after Semantics is applied.
  • Checkouts: number of checkouts gained after Semantics is applied.

note

The information related to No results isn't displayed in either the three previous sections when the Semantics low-results tab is selected, as the data doesn't apply to this case.

Semantics query performance table

Depending on the tab chosen in the scope selector above, the query performance table (F) displays the following information:

  • Enhanced query: the original query that is enhanced with Semantics.
  • Quantity: number of times the query has been searched during the date range.
  • CRT: percentage of clicks gained after applying Semantics.
  • Add2carts: number of add-to-carts gained after applying Semantics.
  • Checkouts: number of checkouts gained after applying Semantics.
  • Top 4 Semantics suggestions: the most frequent four queries (single-term or multi-term queries) suggested by the Semantics service as an alternative to the original query.

You can use the action tools for visualization and navigation options. Select the number of queries to be displayed with the row selector. Navigate to the following page with the page navigation options. Download the data displayed with the Download icon.
